Tragedy struck the lyana Ejigbo area of Lagos State on Saturday 12, April 2025 where a commercial bus with registration number (AAA 927 YJ) reportedly traveling at an excessive speed,lost control and killed a pedestrian and living 2 others seriously injured. 

Investigator news reports that the driver and the conductor fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning their vehicle and the victims.

In a release signed by Director Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq confirmed the grievous vehicular mishap that transpired at Iyana Ejigbo, Lagos, involving a painted commercial LT bus (AAA 927 YJ).

According to him,preliminary findings indicate that the commercial bus, reportedly travelling at an excessive speed, experienced a catastrophic brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered off course and forcefully collided with unsuspecting bystanders.

He noted that operatives of LASTMA responded expeditiously, extracting the deceased, who was pinned beneath the bus, and rendering immediate assistance to the injured, stating that all three victims were swiftly conveyed to the General Hospital in Isolo for urgent medical intervention.

“In a disturbing turn of events, the driver and conductor fled the scene immediately following the accident, abandoning the victims and vehicle.

“Throughout the rescue effort, officers of the Ejigbo Police Division provided critical security reinforcement to ensure a smooth operation.

“The accident vehicle has since been transferred to the Police by LASTMA personnel for comprehensive investigation.”he submitted

Reacting the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, conveyed his profound condolences to the bereaved family and extended heartfelt wishes for the swift recovery of the injured parties.

He further implored motorists to conscientiously observe stipulated speed limits and to prioritize regular vehicular maintenance—particularly of braking systems—to avert avoidable disasters on our roads.
