Lagos –In a bold and compassionate move to protect the future of the Nigerian girl child,Women in Rotary, Rotary District 9111 is set to host over 200 school students in a special empowerment forum to mark this year’s International Day of the Girl Child.

Themed “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights!”the event will bring together young girls, educators, parents, Rotarians, and community leaders for a day of inspiring conversations, mentorship, and advocacy that goes beyond celebration.

According to the organizers, the message is clear and urgent: “A girl should have the opportunity to learn before she is expected to provide, dream before she is pressured to settle, and grow before she is asked to become an adult.”

The forum is designed to be engaging, interactive and transformational — equipping girls with knowledge about their rights, their bodies, their education, and their immense potential to lead.

“When you invest in a girl, you invest in a generation. When you cut short a girl’s education through early marriage, you cut short the future of a nation,” the organizing committee stated.

“Let girls be girls. Let them learn, let them dream, and let them become all that God created them to be.”

The gathering will address the root causes and devastating consequences of child marriage from health risks and school dropouts to psychological trauma and economic dependence while offering solutions rooted in education, parental support, and community action.

Investigator news reports that the keynote address will be delivered by Rotarian Dr. Grace Bamigboye, a renowned medical expert and passionate girl-child advocate, who is expected to bring both professional insight and lived experience to the dialogue.

The event is hosted by PP Lara Akinsanya, Chair, Women in Rotary, under the distinguished leadership of Rotarian Bukola Bakare, District Governor, Rotary District 9111, as Chief Host.

“Women in Rotary believes that no girl should have her dreams traded for tradition. We are here to defend her right to education, to safety, and to choice. We are adding value to humanity by ensuring that every girl knows she matters,” Akinsanya said.

For District Governor Bakare, the initiative aligns perfectly with Rotary’s commitment to promoting gender equality, basic education, and creating lasting impact in communities.

More than just an observance, Investigator news gathered that the International Day of the Girl Child celebration by Women in Rotary is a movement a rallying call to parents to protect, to teachers to empower, to leaders to legislate, and to society to invest more deliberately in girls.

As the world watches, 200 girls in Lagos will stand up to say: We deserve childhood, we deserve education, we deserve opportunity.
