…….Agency Urges Motorists to Obey Speed Limits, Ensure Vehicles Are Roadworthy

A female motorist has lost her life in a tragic lone-vehicle crash at Mongoro, inward Ile-Zik, prompting the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to renew its appeal to motorists to shun excessive speeding and embrace responsible driving habits.
The fatal accident occurred over the weekend when the deceased, who was driving a Toyota Sienna with registration number LND 162 HB, reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
According to preliminary security findings, the vehicle veered off the road and crashed violently into a roadside building. The impact of the collision was severe, leading to her instant death. She was the only occupant of the vehicle.
LASTMA officials, who were on routine patrol along the corridor, swiftly responded to the emergency by securing the accident scene and deploying traffic management measures to prevent further incidents.
The officers placed safety cones around the affected area, redirected traffic, and coordinated the evacuation process to ensure the safety of other road users while minimizing disruption to traffic flow.
Although the incident caused temporary traffic delays, the timely intervention of LASTMA personnel helped restore normal vehicular movement within a short period.
Investigator news reports that security operatives from the Afonka Police Post under the Shasha Divisional Police Headquarters also provided security throughout the rescue and evacuation operation.
Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the crash as a painful reminder of the deadly consequences of excessive speed and reckless driving.
He stressed that speed limits are designed to protect lives and urged motorists to approach every journey with patience, discipline, and strict adherence to traffic regulations.
“No destination is worth the loss of human life. Excessive speeding remains one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes. We urge all motorists to exercise caution, remain vigilant, and drive responsibly at all times,” Bakare-Oki said.
He also advised vehicle owners to ensure their automobiles are mechanically sound before embarking on any journey, noting that any sign of mechanical fault should be addressed immediately by qualified professionals before the vehicle is driven again.
The traffic management agency extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for strength and comfort for her loved ones during this difficult period.
