The sixth edition of the Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman’s Cup has commenced in grand style, with no fewer than 50 football teams undergoing screening ahead of what promises to be another exciting season of grassroots football competition.
The screening exercise, held on Sunday at the Jide Sanwo-Olu Arena, Ilupeju, attracted teams from various local government areas across Lagos State and beyond.
Technical officials meticulously screened players and team credentials to ensure compliance with the competition’s rules before the draw ceremony, which will herald the commencement of matches.
Sponsored annually by the Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Dr. Seyi Jakande (JAKO), the Chairman’s Cup has grown into one of the foremost grassroots football tournaments in Lagos, serving as a platform for talent discovery, youth engagement and community development.
According to the organisers, the tournament is designed to productively engage students and young people during the long third-term school holidays, providing them with opportunities to develop their football talents while discouraging involvement in crime, drug abuse and other social vices.
