Asaba, Delta State –The Delta State Police Command has successfully arrested four suspected armed robbers and recovered two firearms during a series of coordinated stop-and-search operations in Asaba.
The arrests are part of the ongoing efforts to curb violent crime and enhance security across the state.
Investigator news reports that on April 23, 2026, at approximately 4:25 PM, operatives from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) intercepted one Chinoso Igwemma, a 28-year-old male, along the Ugbolu/Asaba Road.
During a routine stop-and-search, the suspect’s suspicious behavior led to the discovery of a fabricated Beretta pistol in his possession.
The quick action of the operatives is believed to have prevented a potential violent crime. Igwemma is currently in police custody and undergoing investigation.
In a separate operation, officers from the Crack Squad, while on a routine patrol in the Bonsaac area of Asaba, stopped a tricycle with three male occupants. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered a locally made cut-to-size firearm, loaded with one live cartridge.
The suspects, identified as Umuadi Benjamin Chinecherem (30), Nwabueze Kelvin (28), and Okonkwo Celestine (30), were arrested and taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are involved in various criminal activities, including armed robbery, and efforts are underway to identify additional accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the officers’ efforts, emphasizing the importance of intelligence-led policing and proactive strategies to prevent crime and dismantle criminal networks in the state.
