MAIDUGURI — The Progressives Alliance for Justice, Unity and Democracy has threatened to hand over Ibrahim G. Wala to law enforcement agencies over what it called “false, malicious and defamatory” allegations against Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State.
In a press statement signed by Convener, Wale Adegoke, and Secretary, Musa Abdullahi, the group described Wala’s latest attack as part of a pattern of “falsehood and blackmail” targeted at undermining a performing administration.
The Alliance recalled that Wala was previously convicted by a competent court of law for making unsubstantiated allegations against the then Executive Secretary of the National Hajj Commission, Alhaji Muktar, and was sentenced to prison.
“It is a national embarrassment that a person convicted for peddling lies is the one now attacking the credibility of Governor Zulum,” the group said. “The court found him guilty of false claims and brazen unsubstantiation.”
The group accused Wala of embarking on a campaign of calumny to denigrate the achievements of the Zulum administration since 2019.
“These baseless allegations are nothing but desperation and treachery aimed at hoodwinking the people against a governor with proven records of integrity, honesty and performance,” the statement read.
It added that residents of Borno can attest to the “miracle hand of Zulum” in areas of reconstruction, security, education, health and infrastructure across the state.
The Alliance further criticized Wala for “pontificating on funds accruing to Borno” despite what it described as a tainted record on issues of integrity and moral rectitude.
“We warn Wala and his cohorts to desist from this fruitless grandstanding and allow the government to consolidate on development-oriented projects,” the group stated.
“A restrained response to evil is not weakness. We shall take adequate steps to ensure justice prevails. Wala should be ready to appear before law enforcement agents to substantiate his false claims again.”
The Progressives Alliance urged citizens to ignore Wala’s allegations and continue to support the Zulum administration in delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Borno.
