Maiduguri,Borno— The Progressives Alliance for Justice, Unity and Democracy has faulted Ibrahim G. Wala over his recent criticism of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, describing it as baseless, malicious and aimed at distracting a performing administration.
In a statement signed by its Convener, Wale Adegoke, and Secretary,Musa Abdullahi, the group accused Wala of engaging in “the politics of falsehood and blackmail” against a governor whose performance record is verifiable.
The group recalled that Wala was previously convicted by a competent court of law for making unsubstantiated allegations against the then Chairman of the National Hajj Commission,Alhaji Muktar, and was sentenced to prison.
“How can a person convicted for peddling false claims turn around to attack the integrity and performance of Governor Zulum?” the statement queried. “It is a tragedy that someone with such a record is now pontificating on governance and public funds in Borno.”
According to the Alliance, the court’s verdict established Wala’s pattern of “false claims, lies and brazen unsubstantiation,” and that he has not shown any evidence of repentance.
“It is unfortunate that the media space continues to give room to individuals whose credibility should be questioned. Wala’s latest tirade against Zulum is nothing but a desperate attempt to denigrate an administration that has delivered above-average results since 2019,” the group stated.
The Progressives Alliance said Governor Zulum’s achievements in reconstruction, security, education, health and infrastructure are visible across Borno and are attested to by the people of the state.
“The most reprehensible part of Wala’s posture is his attempt to hoodwink citizens against a leader known for honesty, integrity and service delivery. This is pure treachery,” it added.
The group warned Wala and his associates to desist from what it called “fruitless grandstanding” and allow the Borno State Government to focus on consolidating development projects.
“We restrain ourselves in responding to evil, but that should not be mistaken for weakness. We will take necessary steps to ensure justice prevails. Wala should be ready to substantiate his claims before the law again,” the statement warned.
The Alliance urged citizens to disregard Wala’s allegations and continue to support the Zulum administration in its efforts to rebuild Borno.
