The Zone 2 chapter of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) on Monday 20, April 2026,elected new executives, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to enhance the security of lives and property.
The elections, which featured contestants from the three operational areas — the Zone 2 Command, Ogun State and Lagos State — saw all candidates emerge unopposed and subsequently ratified.
The exercise, held at the Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters, was monitored by the PCRC National Chairman, representative of the Assistant Inspector General of Police,alongside other top officials of the organisation.
Speaking at the event,the Electoral Committee Chairman,Elder Adekunle Adelaja in his welcome speech thanked the organization for finding the committee worthy and assuring the National body of a free and fair election.
He thanked the members and called for their cooperation and commitment to the democratic process.
He stated that the election is in line with the constitution of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) and in an atmosphere of transparency, peace, and mutual understanding.
According to him, the delegates are 63 from the three zones of Lagos,Ogun and Zone 2 and they will vote for 21 positions, noting that the Electoral Committee remained impartial throughout the process and ensured that all guidelines were strictly adhered to.
“The successful conduct of this election today is a testament to the unity and shared vision within Zone 2 PCRC. We are confident that the newly elected executives will build on existing achievements and strengthen collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force to enhance security and community policing,” he said.
Elder Adelaja noted that after the harmonization,it was agreed that 7 positions will go to Lagos and Ogun Zone and 6 positions will go to Zone 2, urging them to vote wisely.
It will be recalled the National Headquarters of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) approved the appointment of a caretaker committee headed by Alhaji Mohamed Uthman Jagunma from Kwara state to oversee the affairs of PCRC Zone 2, Onikan, in Lagos State.
The decision followed the expiration of the tenure of the previous executive leadership of the zone and is aimed at ensuring continuity, stability, and effective coordination of the committee’s activities pending the conduct of fresh elections.
In his address, Alhaji Mohamed Uthman Jagunma thanked the zone for their support during the period of of their stay in office as Caretaker committee chairman.
He noted that the caretaker committee was constituted to stabilise the organisation and ensure a seamless transition to a duly elected executive, adding that the objective has now been achieved,describing the election as a milestone in strengthening the structure of Zone 2 PCRC.
“We are delighted that the election is conducted today and we pray for a peaceful and successful election.Today will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Zone 2 PCRC. The caretaker committee has fulfilled its mandate, and we are confident that the newly elected executives will continue to promote peace, security, and stronger police-community relations,” he said.
He thanked members for their patience, cooperation, and support throughout the caretaker period, noting that their commitment made the transition smooth and successful.
The caretaker chairman also urged the incoming elected executives to embrace inclusiveness, teamwork, and dedication to service, while calling on members to continue supporting the leadership for the growth and progress of the organisation.
He concluded by reaffirming the commitment of Zone 2 PCRC to partnering with the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring improved security of lives and property across Lagos and Ogun States.
Investigator news reports that the position of the Zonal chairman,2nd Vice Chairman, Financial Secretary,PRO 1, Organizing Secretary,Ex Officio 3 and legal officer 2 was allocated to Ogun zone, while Deputy Zonal chairman, Assistant Secretary, Treasure, Provost Marshall, Welfare 1 and Ex Officio 2 went to Lagos zone.
The positions of 1st Zonal chairman, Zonal deputy Secretary ,PRO 2, Organizing Secretary 2,Welfare 2, Legal officer 1 and Auditor went to Zone 2.
The National President of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, who monitored the Zone 2 election, commended members for conducting a peaceful and credible exercise.
Speaking after the election held at the Zone 2 Command Headquarters, the National President described the process as transparent, orderly, and in line with the ideals and constitution of the PCRC.
He noted that the peaceful emergence of the new executives demonstrated the unity, maturity, and shared commitment of members across Lagos and Ogun States toward strengthening police-community relations.
“I am highly impressed with the conduct of this election. The process was peaceful, transparent, and well-organised. This shows that Zone 2 PCRC remains committed to democratic principles and the collective growth of the organisation,” he stated.
Alhaji Olaniyan further emphasised that the PCRC remains a critical partner in supporting the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in intelligence gathering, community engagement, and enhancing public trust.
Following the election, the National President formally presented the newly elected executives to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, reaffirming their legitimacy and readiness to serve.
He urged the newly elected officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by members, stressing the need for teamwork, inclusiveness, and dedication to service.
“The responsibility before you is enormous. You must work collectively to strengthen the PCRC structure, support the police, and promote peace and security across Zone 2. I urge you to carry everyone along and uphold the values of the organisation,” he advised.
The National President also appreciated the leadership of Zone 2 Command and members for their cooperation, noting that the successful conduct of the election would further enhance synergy between the police and the communities in Lagos and Ogun States.
The President described the AIG as a product of the PCRC, stating that the organisation banks on him to bring peace and the security of life and property in the area with useful information from the residents to operatives.
He commended the IGP for deploying the AIG to the zone, said that the AIG being in a familiar terrain makes the job of security keeping earlier and responsive.
He concluded by expressing confidence that the newly elected executives would build on existing achievements and take Zone 2 PCRC to greater heights in promoting safety and community development and went further to present the newly elected officers to the Assistant Inspector General Of Police,AIG Jimoh.
AIG Jimoh In his remark said that, the 42 yrs existence of the PCRC has been instrumental to many advancement and feats achieved by the police.
Jimoh, said that he began enjoying the collaboration with the organisation PCRC from his early years in the force, noting that the body played prominent role in the management of the EndSARS crisis.
He described the election as transparent and a pointer that there is progress in the management of the body’s affairs.
“With the election done and accepted it will propel the organisation and the police to work in partnership to bring to fore the IGP ideal community policing”
“The security of the society should be everyone’s responsibility and not only for operatives.
“As a people we should do more to align with the IGP’s stance on improved policing to respond to the needs of today,” he said
Speaking with newsmen,the traditional ruler of Imeko, the Oni Imeko of Imeko Kingdom, Oba Benjamin Alabi, described effective policing as essential for societal growth and development.
Oba Alabi noted that the prevailing security challenges in parts of the country demand improved support for the police through adequate equipment and intelligence gathering to ensure responsiveness to the needs of citizens.
According to him, the emergence of the new executives would further strengthen the existing symbiotic relationship between the police and communities, thereby promoting peace and stability across the zone.
“The security of our area should be uppermost in our plans to encourage investment and development in society,” he stated.
Also speaking, Chairman of the PCRC Lagos State Chapter, Kehinde Sowomimo, emphasized that the organisation remains committed to working closely with police authorities to sustain peace and order.
Sowomimo described the peaceful conduct of the election as a reflection of unity within the organisation, adding that the PCRC would continue to support police operations with necessary resources to curb insecurity.
He further stressed that ensuring security of lives and property remains critical for sustainable development and harmonious coexistence among residents, irrespective of ethnic or religious differences.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Zone 2 PCRC Chairman, Dr. Samson Kunle, described his emergence as a call to service and pledged to run an open-door administration focused on transparency, inclusiveness, and effective service delivery.
Quoting a Yoruba proverb, he said, “Òwúrọ̀ l’ó ń sọ ọjọ́ di mímọ́ — it is the dawn that reveals the promise of a new day,” noting that the new leadership marks a renewed commitment to unity and purpose.
Kunle outlined key priorities of his administration to include the rebranding of the zonal structure, provision of a functional office and logistics, promotion of transparent governance, and an inclusive membership drive across communities and professional groups.
He also pledged stronger stakeholders’ engagement, particularly as the country approaches the election period, while emphasizing the importance of empowering women and youth committees within the organisation.
The new chairman further assured members of closer collaboration with the Assistant Inspector-General of Police and other senior officers at Zone 2 Command to deepen community engagement and strengthen trust between residents and security agencies.
He added that the administration would prioritize support and empowerment for both PCRC members and police personnel, noting that an engaged community and motivated police force remain critical to achieving sustainable security across Lagos State and Ogun State.
