Owerri –In a move aimed at strengthening peace and security across Imo State, Ugwumba Movement International, a grassroots-based socio-political organization, on Wednesday, April 15, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Audu Garba Bosso, to establish a strategic partnership for enhanced security and stability.
Speaking during the visit, the Director-General of Ugwumba Movement International, High Chief Chibuike Ahamefula (Odigonma), described the organization as a formidable structure with strong grassroots presence across all local government areas and wards in Imo State.
He noted that the movement’s strength lies in its deep community connections, youth influence, and the vision of its National Leader, Hon. Ugwumba Uche Nwosu.
According to him, sustainable political and economic development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity, stressing that security should no longer be seen as the sole responsibility of security agencies.
“As a movement, we understand clearly that no political or economic advancement can thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity. The era when security was seen as the sole responsibility of uniformed men is long gone.
Today, it requires partnership and credible structures. Our coordinators and members are embedded in communities where real-time information flows.
With proper collaboration, this can significantly enhance proactive policing and crime prevention across the state,” he said.
High Chief Ahamefula further urged the police command to maintain professionalism, fairness, and respect for citizens’ rights and dignity, noting that public trust remains critical to effective policing.
“When people trust the police, they cooperate more, and the security of lives and property becomes easier to achieve,” he added.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, emphasized that community policing remains a vital approach in addressing security challenges, noting that security requires collective responsibility.
He described the proposed partnership with Ugwumba Movement International as timely and commendable, assuring that the Imo State Police Command would work closely with the group to strengthen grassroots security.
CP Bosso also appealed to members of the movement to provide timely and credible information to assist police operations and ensure swift intervention when necessary.
He reiterated that community policing thrives on effective communication and collaboration, adding that bridging communication gaps between communities and law enforcement agencies would significantly improve security across the state.
