Tragedy On Lagos Bridge As Mother Loses Life, Daughter Survives Crash.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a tragic road accident that occurred earlier today on the Third Mainland Bridge, around the Ilaje inward Iyana Oworo axis.

According to the release signed Adebayo Taofiq,Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA,the incident involved a devastating head-on collision between two Toyota Sienna vehicles with registration numbers LSR 809 GV and LSR 695 HM.

The severity of the crash underscores the dangers of reckless driving, particularly excessive speeding.

LASTMA operatives on routine patrol responded swiftly to the distress call, promptly instituting traffic control measures to prevent further incidents. Safety cones were deployed to cordon off the scene and protect other road users.

Personnel from the Oworonsoki Police Division also arrived quickly, taking charge of documentation and initiating necessary legal procedures.

Tragically, the crash claimed the life of an adult female, a mother, while her 30-year-old daughter, who was in the same vehicle, survived the incident.

The remains of the deceased have been evacuated by security operatives, while LASTMA officials, working in collaboration with other agencies, maintained order and ensured smooth traffic flow to avoid secondary accidents.

In the aftermath of the incident, one of the drivers fled the scene, while the other was apprehended by LASTMA officials and handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, reiterated the agency’s warning against reckless driving, especially speeding, which remains a leading cause of fatal accidents.

He urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, exercise caution, and maintain discipline on the roads at all times.

LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring safe and efficient traffic management across Lagos State.
