Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State has called for a renewed commitment to ethical leadership, discipline, and responsible governance, stressing that both public office holders and members of knighthood must consistently choose integrity over convenience.
Speaking at St. Patrick’s Cathedral during the All Knights Day celebration of the Catholic Diocese of Awka, the Governor praised the Catholic Church for its continued role in promoting moral values and strengthening the pursuit of the common good within society.
Governor Soludo highlighted the impact of the Anambra Burial Law, noting that it has significantly reduced extravagant burial ceremonies while promoting dignity in both life and death. He said the policy reflects his administration’s broader vision of ensuring “befitting living and decent burial” for citizens.
The Governor also disclosed that the state government is intensifying its crackdown on individuals he described as “fake pastors” who exploit vulnerable citizens through deceptive religious practices.
He revealed that several suspects are already in custody and making confessional statements, adding that the administration remains committed to building a “New Anambra” anchored on truth, discipline, and hard work.
On public spending, Governor Soludo approved the Knights’ request for support towards charitable visits to orphanages but declined funding for uniforms, insisting that public resources must not be used for private institutional regalia.
He urged members to focus on service and moral example rather than outward appearances.
The event featured a Pontifical Mass celebrated by the Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor. In his homily, the Diocesan Secretary, Rev. Fr. Evaristus Iheanacho, emphasized the role of the Holy Spirit in guiding Christian conduct, describing knighthood as a call to sober reflection, accountability, and disciplined living rooted in the teachings of Christ.
He further admonished the Knights to avoid elitism, remain connected to the people, and uphold humility, stressing that true Christian witness is demonstrated through obedience, service, and moral integrity.
