Ejigbo, Lagos–The Executive Chairman of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo (TAT), has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to environmental sustainability as he officially flagged off the 2026 Lagos State Tree Planting Exercise, urging residents to take collective responsibility for protecting and preserving the environment.
The exercise, themed “Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility,” is part of the Lagos State Government’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental conservation, expand green spaces and encourage communities to embrace tree planting as a vital tool for combating climate change.
Addressing newsmen after the exercise,Aare TAT stressed that safeguarding the environment is a shared responsibility, noting that every tree planted today represents an investment in a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future.
He called on residents, schools, community groups and other stakeholders to not only plant trees but also nurture them to maturity for the benefit of future generations.
The Council Chairman described trees as indispensable to human survival, highlighting their role in improving air quality, reducing environmental pollution, mitigating the effects of climate change and enhancing the beauty of communities.
Aare TAT also commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability through policies and initiatives that continue to make Lagos a greener, cleaner and more resilient state.
Investigator news reports that the flag-off ceremony was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Abimbola Nicholas-Ike; the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Mrs. Yemisi Dorcas Otuyemi; members of the Executive Cabinet; Councillors led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Oluwaseyi Gabriel Sobande; community leaders, education stakeholders, teachers, pupils, youth groups and other government officials.
The event concluded with the symbolic planting of trees and a renewed appeal to residents to embrace environmental stewardship by making tree planting and conservation a continuous community effort.
