The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has praised the Governors of Kogi and Edo States, Ahmed Usman Ododo and Monday Okpebholo, for their people-focused approach to governance, describing their leadership style as humble, accessible and committed to the welfare of the people.
The revered monarch gave the commendation on Thursday while receiving the two governors on a courtesy visit to his palace in Ile-Ife.
He said Governors Ododo and Okpebholo have continued to make meaningful impacts in their respective states because they remain closely connected to the people and have embraced humility as a defining leadership quality.
The Ooni urged public office holders across Nigeria to place service above personal interests, stressing that the true essence of leadership lies in compassion, simplicity and a sincere commitment to improving the lives of citizens.
Turning his attention to the forthcoming August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election, the monarch appealed to political leaders, party supporters and other stakeholders to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
He emphasised that the peace and stability of Osun State should take precedence over political ambitions, urging all parties to conduct themselves responsibly before, during and after the election.
The traditional ruler also applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as bold economic reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s economy.
According to him, the unification of the foreign exchange market, removal of fuel subsidy, improved foreign reserves and increased crude oil production are significant steps toward long-term economic growth.
He further expressed optimism that ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s micro-economy would deliver greater benefits to ordinary Nigerians.
The Ooni equally commended First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for her interventions through the Renewed Hope Initiative, describing her programmes as impactful across the country.
Speaking on behalf of the two governors, Governor Ododo said the visit was to pay homage to the Ooni and sympathise with him over the passing of his elder brother.
He disclosed that they were also in Osun State to mobilise support for the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the governorship election.
Ododo maintained that the APC remains committed to people-oriented governance and sustainable development, adding that the administration of President Tinubu has recorded notable achievements in infrastructure, economic reforms and social welfare.
He expressed confidence that the progressive policies being implemented at the national level, as well as in Kogi and Edo States, would resonate with the people of Osun and further strengthen support for the APC in the forthcoming election.
The visit was attended by top APC leaders and senior government officials from Kogi and Edo States, who accompanied the governors to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
