The Kogi State Government has expressed profound grief over the passing of retired Rear Admiral Alhaji Hamzat Muhammed Sani, describing him as a distinguished military officer, respected elder statesman, and one of the state’s most accomplished sons whose lifetime of service brought honour to Kogi State and Nigeria.
The government made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, stating that the news of the retired naval officer’s death was received with deep sadness.
According to the statement, the late Rear Admiral Hamzat Muhammed Sani, who was also the Otase of Ebiraland, was among the few Kogi indigenes to attain the prestigious rank of Rear Admiral in the Nigerian Navy, a remarkable achievement that earned him national recognition and brought pride to the state.
The government noted that throughout his military career and after retirement, Rear Admiral Sani remained a shining example of patriotism, discipline, integrity, and selfless service to the nation.
It added that he continued to contribute to Nigeria’s democratic and political development by serving as a delegate to the 2005 National Political Reform Conference, where he made valuable contributions to national discourse.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo described the late naval officer’s passing as a monumental loss to Kogi State, Nigeria, and particularly the people of Ebiraland, noting that the deceased devoted his life to promoting peace, unity, and the advancement of his people.
The Governor said Rear Admiral Sani’s exemplary leadership, humility, and unwavering commitment to public service would remain an enduring legacy and continue to inspire future generations to serve their communities and nation with dedication and honour.
The Kogi State Government extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Ihima, the Odumi Clan, the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, the Ebira Traditional Council, and the entire people of Ebiraland over the painful loss.
The government prayed that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives the shortcomings of the departed elder statesman, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family, friends, and all those mourning his passing the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Investigator news gathered that Retired Rear Admiral Hamzat Muhammed Sani will be remembered for his outstanding contributions to the Nigerian Navy, his commitment to nation-building, and his lasting impact on the people of Kogi State and Nigeria as a whole.
