…Ododo Orders Health Ministry To Investigate Suspected Food Poisoning.

Lokoja— The Kogi State Government has launched an immediate investigation into the mysterious deaths of four members of the same family in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, after they reportedly consumed a local meal identified as Amala
The directive was announced on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, on behalf of Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo
Fanwo said the governor, referred to as the “Chief Servant” of Kogi State, was deeply disturbed by the incident and had ordered the Commissioner for Health to commence a comprehensive probe.
“The Chief Servant is deeply concerned by this tragic incident and has directed the Commissioner for Health to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, with particular attention to the possibility of food poisoning or food contamination,” Fanwo stated.
According to the Commissioner, the investigation will determine whether the food consumed was contaminated or if any other medical or environmental factor contributed to the deaths.
“The investigation must establish the facts and determine whether the food consumed by the deceased was contaminated or whether any other medical or environmental factor contributed to the deaths.
Relevant samples and available evidence should be properly examined in accordance with established public health procedures,” he quoted the governor as directing.
Fanwo added that the government was also alarmed by reports that the family’s dog died after consuming the same food, noting that the incident would be included in the investigation.
He said the Ministry of Health has been mandated to work with relevant agencies and stakeholders to ensure the probe is thorough and that necessary public health measures are taken based on the findings.
The Commissioner urged residents of Ihima and Kogi State at large to remain calm and avoid speculation until the investigation is concluded.
“The Government urges members of the public to remain calm and avoid drawing conclusions about the cause of the deaths until the investigation is concluded and the facts are established by the relevant authorities,” he said.
Fanwo stated that Governor Ododo had commiserated with the bereaved family and the people of Ihima, praying for God to grant them strength and comfort.
He assured that the government would release further information to the public once verified facts emerge from the investigation.
