Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has paid glowing tribute to former Chief Judge of the state, Justice Paul Obidigwe, describing him as an exemplary jurist whose life of integrity, service, and excellence continues to inspire generations.
Governor Soludo made the remarks during the celebration of Justice Obidigwe’s 80th birthday in Onitsha, where family members, friends, colleagues, and dignitaries gathered to honour the retired judge’s remarkable contributions to the judiciary, the church, and society.
Congratulating the octogenarian on behalf of the government and people of Anambra State, the Governor said Justice Obidigwe’s enduring legacy is reflected not only in his years on the bench but also in his continued dedication to public service.
“Justice Obidigwe is a man who has devoted his life to the service of humanity. He has left Anambra better than he met it, proving that the true measure of life is the positive impact we make on others,” Governor Soludo said.
The Governor noted that despite retiring from active judicial service, Justice Obidigwe remains committed to the state’s development, citing his recent assignment as chairman of the panel that investigated the Awka kinship dispute.
According to him, the retired jurist’s wealth of experience, wisdom, and sense of justice have continued to provide valuable guidance on sensitive matters affecting the state.
He also described the commemorative book unveiled during the celebration as a lasting source of inspiration for future generations.
While celebrating the legal icon, Governor Soludo also drew attention to the growing environmental challenges confronting Anambra State, calling on residents to embrace responsible environmental practices.
He warned that flooding and gully erosion have become serious threats to communities across the state, revealing that nearly one-third of Anambra’s landmass has already been affected by the twin ecological disasters.
The Governor blamed indiscriminate blockage of drainage channels and other harmful environmental practices for worsening the situation, stressing that safeguarding the environment is a shared responsibility between government and citizens.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting the state’s ecosystem, Soludo announced that environmental sanitation exercises, tree-planting campaigns, drainage clearance, and strict enforcement against illegal mining activities would remain top priorities in the government’s agenda.
Investigator news reports that the colourful celebration concluded with the ceremonial cutting of the birthday cake, as guests celebrated Justice Obidigwe’s outstanding legacy and wished him many more years of good health and fulfilment.
