The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Hon. Dr. Seyi Jakande, on Saturday supervised the October edition of the council’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise across the nine political wards.

The exercise, which focused on clearing refuse dumps, desilting drainages and evacuating waste from markets and major roads, was part of the administration’s sustained drive to promote a clean and healthy environment.

To ensure effective coverage, the operation was structured into three operational zones, with three heavy-duty evacuation trucks deployed to clear waste along strategic corridors, inner streets and neighbourhood markets.

Dr. Jakande, who moved round several locations to monitor compliance, said proper waste management is a shared responsibility between government and residents, urging households and traders to adopt responsible disposal habits and avoid dumping refuse in drainages.

“Government will continue to do its part by providing trucks and ensuring regular evacuation, but residents must also play their role by bagging their waste properly and using approved PSP operators,” he said.

He noted that regular sanitation is essential to preventing flooding, curbing the outbreak of diseases and keeping the LCDA safe and liveable for all.

After the clean-up exercise, the Chairman proceeded on an inspection tour of ongoing road rehabilitation projects at Amodu Street, Idi-Oro and Adeshiyan Street, Ilupeju, to assess progress of work and ensure contractors adhere to quality specifications.

He said his administration is committed to linking environmental sustainability with infrastructure renewal, adding that both initiatives are central to the HEWA Agenda.

The exercise also provided an opportunity for direct interaction with residents and traders who trooped out to participate and discuss community concerns with the Chairman and his team.

The sanitation operation was coordinated by the Chairman of the Environmental Sanitation Committee, Hon. Gbeminiyi Awodogan, alongside the Secretary to the Local Government, Chief of Staff, Hon. Taiwo Ogungbe, Leader of the Legislative House, Hon. Lekan Adeyi and other top council officials.

The council reaffirmed its zero tolerance for indiscriminate dumping and illegal dumpsites, calling on residents to sustain civic cooperation for a cleaner Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye.
