Oto Awori LCDA, Lagos –Stakeholders in Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have resolved to deepen collaboration aimed at improving security and tackling emerging threats across the community.
The resolution was reached during a security dialogue held on Thursday, which brought together community leaders, security agencies, traditional stakeholders and residents to deliberate on practical measures for safeguarding lives and property.
Discussions at the meeting focused on growing concerns over youth involvement in criminal activities, drug abuse, public safety challenges and the need for stronger community engagement.
Participants also examined issues relating to land disputes, infrastructure protection and improved monitoring of non-residents within the council area.
Speaking at the forum, the Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori LCDA, Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to implementing the Lagos State Government’s directive on strengthening grassroots security architecture.
According to him, the council will support the establishment of a Joint Task Force and deploy patrol vehicles to enhance surveillance and rapid response across communities within the LCDA. He added that special attention would be given to security around schools to ensure a safer environment for pupils, students and residents.
Hon. Abiodun further disclosed plans to improve regulation and accountability among commercial transport operators while calling for stronger cooperation between community groups and security agencies to bolster night patrols and secure the council’s boundaries.
The stakeholders collectively agreed on the need to reinforce community policing efforts, improve street lighting and surveillance in vulnerable locations, and encourage residents to provide timely information through appropriate channels.
Landlords, school authorities and community leaders were also urged to play more active roles in promoting positive values among youths and resolving disputes before they escalate into security concerns.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to collective responsibility, as participants emphasized that maintaining peace and security remains a shared obligation between government, security agencies, community leaders and residents.
