……Inspects Flood-Prone Areas Despite Heavy Rain, Insists on Cleaner, Safer Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA

Ilupeju, Lagos –The Executive Chairman of Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Dr. Seyi Jakande, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to flood prevention and environmental sustainability by ordering the immediate removal of illegal roadside structures and drainage obstructions across Ilupeju.
Investigator reports that despite a heavy downpour on Tuesday, the Chairman embarked on an extensive inspection tour of flood-prone areas along Ilupeju Road and Tinubu Road, where he assessed the condition of drainage channels and identified several unauthorized structures impeding the free flow of stormwater.
During the exercise, Dr. Jakande directed the immediate demolition and removal of makeshift shanties, illegally constructed culvert covers, key clamps, and other structures erected on roadways and drainage channels.
He noted that such illegal developments have become a major contributor to flooding, poor sanitation, and environmental degradation within the council area.
The Chairman stressed that no individual or business would be allowed to compromise public infrastructure or endanger the lives and property of residents through unlawful occupation of public spaces.
He warned that his administration would continue to enforce environmental laws to ensure that drainage systems remain free of obstructions, especially during the rainy season.
As part of the inspection, Dr. Jakande also visited several companies operating along the corridor, directing their management to remove all unauthorized structures around their premises, maintain clean and hygienic surroundings, and strictly comply with environmental regulations.
He further reminded business owners of their statutory obligation to pay approved local government rates and levies, emphasizing that responsible corporate citizenship includes supporting environmental sanitation and contributing to the sustainable development of the local community.
According to the Council Chairman, the inspection and enforcement exercise forms part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen drainage infrastructure, improve environmental sanitation, and reduce the recurring threat of flooding across Òdì-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.
Dr. Jakande reiterated that his administration remains unwavering in its determination to build a cleaner, healthier, and flood-resilient council, in line with the HEWA Agenda: Service to the People, Prosperity for All.
He also appealed to residents, traders, and corporate organizations to support government efforts by keeping drainage channels free of waste and refraining from erecting illegal structures on public infrastructure.
He assured residents that routine environmental inspections and enforcement operations would continue across all communities to protect lives, safeguard public assets, and create a safer and more sustainable environment for everyone.
