The Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society (NAFSAT) has demonstrated its commitment to faith-based welfare and poverty alleviation as it empowered 230 beneficiaries with a total of N77 million and vocational tools during its 2026 Annual Zakat and Sadaqat Disbursement Programme held in Lagos.
The event, which took place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at the Lagos State Central Mosque Hall, Alausa, Ikeja,bringing together Islamic leaders, donors, beneficiaries, and stakeholders in a ceremony centred on charity, empowerment, and social responsibility.
It also featured the unveiling of a comprehensive empowerment package aimed at supporting small businesses, vocational development, and economic self-reliance among beneficiaries.
Investigator news reports that as part of the intervention, 10 beneficiaries received N1 million each to boost their existing businesses or startup ventures, while others were supported with essential working tools including sewing machines, cobbler machines, deep freezers, generators, barbing kits,Oven and other vocational equipment designed to enhance self-sufficiency.
Speaking at the event, the General Manager of the NAFSAT Agency for Zakat and Sadaqat, Alhaji Mufutau Omosola Adelotan,in his welcome address gave an overview of the agencyâs operations and achievements over the years, noting that the organisation remains committed to transparent and impactful distribution of zakat funds.
He explained that the programme is anchored on Islamic principles of social justice and wealth redistribution, adding that zakat remains a critical pillar of Islam aimed at supporting the less privileged and strengthening community welfare.
According to him, the funds used for the empowerment were generated through faithful zakat contributions from Muslim donors who fulfilled their religious obligation of supporting the needy.
Alhaji Adelotan also confirmed that a total of N77 million was disbursed in this yearâs edition, describing it as an improvement over previous years and a reflection of growing donor confidence.
Delivering a guest lecture, Imam Abdullahi Shuaib, PhD, the Chief Executive Officer of AS & Associates, emphasised the spiritual and socio-economic importance of zakat in Islam.
He described zakat as a divine institution that purifies wealth, reduces inequality, strengthens community bonds, and brings blessings into society.
Quoting from the Qurâan and Hadith, he reminded stakeholders that proper administration of zakat is a trust from Allah, urging them to discharge it with sincerity, fairness, and accountability.
âYou are custodians of a sacred trust. Every rightful distribution is an act of worship,â he said.
The cleric also encouraged wealthy Muslims to see zakat not as a loss but as purification and a source of divine increase, stressing that âcharity does not reduce wealth but rather increases it in blessing and reward.â
To beneficiaries, he advised responsible use of the support received, urging them to invest wisely in productive ventures that would improve their livelihoods and enable them to become future donors.
Imam Shuaib further noted that when zakat is properly administered, society benefits through reduced poverty, improved social harmony, and increased economic activity.
Stakeholders in their goodwill messages,reiterated the organisationâs mission of promoting Islamic values through social welfare, describing zakat as a core pillar of Islam and a tool for uplifting lives.
They appreciated the donors for entrusting NASFAT with their zakat contributions and highlighted the positive impact of the funds on widows, students, small business owners, and vulnerable families.
The Acting Chairman Alhaji Abdurahman Abdulwahab urged the beneficiaries to receive the support with gratitude and dignity, while applauding the committee members and volunteers for their transparency and dedication.
He urge the beneficiaries to make good use of opportunity so as to assist other people in Zakat in few years to come.

Beneficiaries at the event expressed gratitude to NAFSAT and its donors, describing the intervention as timely and impactful in addressing economic challenges and supporting small-scale enterprises.
They pledged to make effective use of the cash grants and equipment to improve their businesses and support their families.
Speaking with newsmen,the General Manager Alhaji Mufutau disclosed that beneficiaries were carefully selected through a structured process managed by a technical committee.
According to him, applicants first obtained and submitted forms, after which the committee conducted thorough screening, reviews, and interviews to ensure that only genuinely qualified individuals were selected.
He noted that the empowerment programme was designed to ensure fairness and to reach those most in need across different categories.
Alhaji Mufutau went further to urge the beneficiaries to make proper and judicious use of the funds and equipment provided, warning against misuse or resale of the items.

The Annual Zakat and Sadaqat Disbursement Programme remains one of NAFSATâs flagship initiatives aimed at promoting welfare, empowering vulnerable groups, and strengthening the socio-economic wellbeing of Muslim communities in Lagos and beyond.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of certificate and cheque of N1million naira to 10 beneficiaries under the training skill initiative and vocational items to other beneficiaries.
