The Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparent governance, community development, and unity as Nigerians commemorate the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
In his Democracy Day message to residents, the chairman described June 12 as a historic symbol of Nigeria’s democratic struggle and a reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold the principles of freedom, justice, and good governance.
Hon. Abiodun noted that democracy goes beyond periodic elections, stressing that it requires continuous efforts to ensure accountability, respect for the rule of law, and prudent management of public resources for the benefit of the people.
According to him, these democratic ideals continue to guide his administration’s approach to governance, particularly in the areas of road maintenance, market management, education, healthcare support, and other grassroots development initiatives across Oto-Awori LCDA.
The council boss commended residents for their active participation in local governance, emphasizing that their feedback, cooperation, and vigilance have remained critical in shaping policies and identifying developmental priorities within the community.
He stated that democracy thrives when governance remains close to the people, adding that the involvement of residents strengthens the legitimacy and effectiveness of government at the grassroots level.
Reaffirming his administration’s dedication to transparency and accountability, Hon. Abiodun assured residents that public funds would continue to be managed responsibly while priority projects aimed at improving the welfare and living standards of the people would receive sustained attention.
He further highlighted youth and women empowerment, as well as support for small businesses, as key pillars of the council’s development agenda, aimed at creating economic opportunities and fostering inclusive growth.
While calling on residents to celebrate the occasion peacefully, the chairman urged them to reject actions capable of undermining peace and unity within the council area.
He stressed that political differences should not create divisions among the people, noting that progress can only be achieved through collective effort and mutual respect.
Hon. Abiodun concluded by extending his best wishes to all residents on the occasion of Democracy Day and encouraged them to remain steadfast in protecting democratic values and contributing positively to the development of Oto-Awori LCDA, Lagos State, and Nigeria as a whole.
“May this Democracy Day renew our commitment to building a stronger, more united, and prosperous society for present and future generations,” he said.
