The Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Kareem Azeez Abiodun, has declared an uncompromising war against illegal road obstruction across the council area, warning that anyone found blocking public roads for private activities will face the full weight of the law.
The Chairman made the declaration on Tuesday after personally intervening to restore order on the Shibiri main road, where a private party had caused a major traffic gridlock by erecting a canopy on the roadway.
Hon. Kareem, who was returning from an inspection of the site of the recently collapsed uncompleted building in Imude, was confronted with the heavy traffic caused by the obstruction.
Disturbed by the situation, he immediately ordered the dismantling of the party tent and personally supervised traffic control to ease the congestion and ensure the free movement of motorists and pedestrians.
Speaking at the scene, the Chairman condemned the misuse of public roads for social events, describing the practice as irresponsible, unlawful and a serious threat to public safety.
“We will not tolerate any lawless activity causing traffic congestion in Shibiri. The main road is for vehicular and pedestrian movement, not for parties or private functions.
Anyone caught obstructing the road will face the full weight of the law,” Hon. Kareem stated.
He stressed that roads are critical public assets that must remain accessible at all times, particularly for emergency responders, commercial activities and residents going about their daily businesses.
The Council Chairman directed security agencies and the council’s enforcement teams to intensify surveillance and enforcement across Oto-Awori LCDA to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.

He also instructed commercial transport operatorsâincluding Keke Napep, Okada riders and mini-bus driversâto strictly observe traffic regulations and cooperate with authorities in maintaining order on the roads.
Hon. Kareem further appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, landlords, event planners and residents to support the council’s efforts by discouraging the illegal occupation of public roads for ceremonies and other private engagements.
According to him, maintaining free-flowing traffic and ensuring public safety are essential responsibilities of every resident, adding that sustainable development can only thrive in an environment where law and order are respected.
The Chairman reaffirmed that the Oto-Awori LCDA administration will continue to enforce traffic and environmental laws without compromise as part of its commitment to promoting a safer, cleaner and more orderly community.
Investigator news reports that residents who witnessed the Chairman’s swift intervention commended his decisive leadership and expressed appreciation for the immediate restoration of normal traffic flow, describing the action as a demonstration of responsive and people-oriented governance.
