On Thursday, Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje of the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos ordered Sakiru Oladosu, 50, and Tola Rasaq, 40, to be remanded for defiling and impregnating a 13-year-old girl.

The defendants allegedly took the victim for an illegal abortion after she became pregnant.

The suspects, who live in Lagos’ Mushin neighbourhood, were charged with defilement and unlawful procuring of abortion by the police.

According to Section 137 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, defilement is penalised by up to life in prison, while unlawful procurement of a miscarriage is penalised by three years in jail under Section 135(1)(2).
The prosecution counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendants committed the crimes on Odusanmi Street in Mushin, Lagos, in February.

Oladosu, according to Ajayi, brought the youngster to his house, defiled her, and impregnated her.

“On April 3, the defendant took the girl to an unidentified drugstore on Ashofin Street in Lagos’ Okareju Mushin neighbourhood,” she stated.

“Oladosu and Rasaq plotted to pay N4,000 to illegally administer an injection to abort the pregnancy,” Ajayi claimed.

Magistrate Kubeinje refused to hear their arguments and ordered that they be held at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the state Director of Public Prosecutions’ advice.

The matter was deferred by Kubeinje until July 7, 2022, for mention.
