The Eastern Union, Nigeria, has called on all opposition leaders in the country to make uncommon sacrifices and compromises to dislodge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
In a press release signed by its National President, Hon. Charles Anike C., the group described President Tinubu as “a bull in the China shop of Nigeria” that must be quietly led out, warning that failure to do so would spell doom for the nation.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a bull in the China shop of Nigeria and all the opposition leaders must sacrifice whatever they can and compromise everything necessary to quietly lead the BULL out of the China shop, otherwise the whole nation would be doomed.
And in true honesty, history will not be kind to every one of them in the opposition,” the statement said.
The group accused the President of positioning himself as an obstacle to the progress and unity of Nigeria, alleging that he could be instrumental to ending the country’s unity as a Federation.
It referenced his widely circulated declaration years back that he doesn’t believe in one Nigeria, noting that his activities and body language since assuming office point in that direction.
The Union said it was time for opposition leaders to put on their thinking caps, adding that Nigerians across the country harbour grudges against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for spearheading and championing the emergence of the APC, which it said has led to socio-political, economic and moral degeneration in the last 12 years.
“The same blame and irritation goes to His Excellency, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi for his unwarranted fight against Jonathan and his roles in bringing the plague called APC to power.
To some extent the same to His Excellency, Rabiu Kwankwaso and host of other key actors. This is not allegation or debatable but a fact of current history,” Anike stated.
He said it behoves the eminent personalities to come down from their high horses and inordinate ambitions to fight to liberate Nigeria from what he described as the bondage of the APC, noting that such liberation would come at a price but is necessary for history to judge them with mercy.
“In essence our advice is that Atiku, Amaechi, Obi, Kwankwaso and others must go back to the drawing board and go extra miles to undertake uncommon sacrifices and compromises required from them so that Tinubu and APC will be sent packing in 2027, otherwise their yoke will continue and will be too heavy for Nigerians to bear in the years ahead.”
The group warned that if opposition leaders refuse to heed the advice due to ego and ambition and continue to work separately, they would have consciously given Tinubu the opportunity to rig himself back to power.
“You all in the opposition must learn from the past and also see the dangerous plans Tinubu has laid down by craftily coaxing about 31 state governors into joining his camp,” it added.
According to the statement, only a united opposition can frustrate what it called the evil agenda of Tinubu and his APC.
“Atiku and Amaechi ticket is not sellable anywhere in Nigeria and is a welcome development in favour of Tinubu and his men. Obi and Kwankwaso ticket is sellable but doesn’t have the political machinery that can secure the victory.
“Therefore the more organized political structures of Atiku and mass oriented Obi/Kwankwaso movement are very much needed in alliance to secure the much expected victory for Nigerians.
“Obi and Kwankwaso enjoy the massive support of honest Nigerians but that won’t be enough to overthrow the crafty Tinubu.
The combination of Atiku’s political machinery will help secure and sustain massive voters that will vote Obi/Kwankwaso ticket BUT that is why… sacrifices and compromises are imminent,” the statement concluded.
