The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially unveiled Hon. Damilola Sonayon-James as its Deputy Governorship Candidate for the 2027 Lagos State Governorship Election, positioning the experienced grassroots politician and development expert alongside the party’s Governorship Candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.
Hon. Sonayon-James, a prominent Badagry princess and the current Deputy State Woman Leader of the APC, emerged following what party leaders described as an extensive consultation and rigorous selection process aimed at identifying a capable, competent, and widely accepted candidate to strengthen the party’s ticket ahead of the crucial election.
Announcing the decision, Lagos State APC Chairman and Chairman of the Forum of 36 APC State Chairmen, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, said the choice of Sonayon-James reflects the party’s commitment to excellence, inclusiveness, and rewarding loyalty and service.
According to him, the selection process carefully considered leadership capacity, grassroots acceptance, political experience, competence, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and development of Lagos State.
Ojelabi noted that Sonayon-James distinguished herself through her unwavering dedication to public service, innovative leadership style, strong connection with grassroots communities, and remarkable commitment to the ideals and vision of the APC.
He described the Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket as a formidable combination of experience, innovation, energy, and visionary leadership that is well-positioned to advance the developmental aspirations of Lagosians and sustain the state’s reputation as Nigeria’s economic powerhouse.
“The APC remains committed to delivering good governance and sustainable development for the people of Lagos. The Hamzat-Sonayon-James ticket represents continuity, progress, and a brighter future for our state,” Ojelabi stated.
He urged residents to support the APC in the forthcoming election, stressing that a vote for the party would be a vote for prosperity, inclusive growth, infrastructural advancement, and people-oriented governance.
Investigator news reports that at 41, Hon. Damilola Sonayon-James has built a distinguished career spanning more than 15 years in governance, public policy, institutional development, sustainability, stakeholder engagement, risk governance, and community development.
Widely respected for her grassroots mobilization efforts and passion for community service, she previously served as Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), where she championed numerous initiatives focused on agricultural development, women empowerment, youth inclusion, educational support, and social welfare programmes.
Beyond her public service record, she has remained actively involved in political mobilization, women leadership development, youth empowerment, and community advocacy across Lagos State, earning admiration from party members and residents alike.
Her popularity among women and young people has earned her the affectionate title of “Sisi Eko of APC,” a reflection of her accessibility, dedication to service, and enduring connection with the grassroots.
