The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has apprehended the driver of a heavily-loaded bucket truck following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of a pedestrian and a motorcyclist along the Iyana-Iba Flyover inward the main gate of Lagos State University on the Badagry Expressway.
According to preliminary investigations, the truck driver was reportedly speeding from Volkswagen inward Badagry when he struck and killed an unsuspecting pedestrian.
Rather than stopping after the incident, the driver allegedly continued his movement along the expressway.
In a bid to stop the fleeing truck, a motorcyclist, accompanied by another individual, pursued the vehicle. However, the situation turned tragic when the truck driver allegedly rammed into the motorcycle, killing the motorcyclist instantly, while the second occupant escaped unhurt.
Operatives of the LASTMA Night Gang Surveillance and Monitoring Patrol Team, who were on routine night patrol and emergency response duties along the Badagry Expressway, swiftly arrived at the scene and evacuated the body of the deceased motorcyclist trapped beneath the truck.
The truck driver was immediately arrested by LASTMA officials and handed over to security personnel attached to the PPL Police Post, Okokomaiko, alongside officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for further investigation and legal action.
While FRSC officials evacuated the remains of the motorcyclist, the body of the pedestrian was released to family members who later arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident.
Both the truck and the damaged motorcycle involved in the accident were subsequently moved to the PPL Police Post, Okokomaiko, pending the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
He described the incident as another painful consequence of reckless driving by some articulated vehicle operators who disregard traffic laws and safety regulations on major highways.
Bakare-Oki urged truck drivers and other road users to obey speed regulations and exercise caution at all times, especially during night operations, to prevent avoidable tragedies on Lagos roads.
He also reaffirmed LASTMA’s commitment to intensified traffic enforcement, emergency rescue interventions, and collaboration with relevant security and safety agencies to improve road safety across Lagos State.
