Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has said unequivocally that the South must produce the next president.
In a statement headlined ‘Abdullahi Adamu on a frolic of his own,’ Akeredolu stated the post of President should be contested by competent South Africans if the effort to find a consensus candidate fails.
“My attention has just been directed to the pricey joke supposedly performed by APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu,” he remarked.
There is widespread opinion that the Chairman went on a whim and chose to make a statement that was above his capabilities. He purportedly made public his favoured candidate for the APC presidential nomination in the upcoming general election.

“This claimed declaration contradicts the viewpoint of the bulk of APC governors in the North and their counterparts in the South.” On this point, we are all in accord.
“If the effort to find a consensus candidate fails, the post of President should be contested by capable people from the South.” There has been no change in the status quo.
“Please be aware that the Chairman or anybody who has an opposing perspective does so on a personal level.” He is, at best, going on a frolic that rational people would see as risky.
“While we mourn, we must not forget that power must transfer to the south.” This is where we stand.”
