Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has congratulated the immediate past Governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as a courageous leader, visionary reformer, mentor and builder of leaders whose contributions continue to shape the growth and development of Kogi State.
In a personally signed goodwill message on Thursday, Governor Ododo praised Bello’s enduring impact on the state, noting that his leadership transcended infrastructure and policies to include the transformation of lives and the nurturing of future leaders.
The Governor said Yahaya Bello demonstrated uncommon courage by taking difficult decisions aimed at repositioning Kogi State for long-term progress, even when such decisions attracted criticism and opposition.
According to him, Bello belongs to a rare class of leaders who place service above personal comfort and remain committed to the greater good despite challenges and misunderstandings.
“His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello consistently chose service over convenience, sacrifice over comfort and vision over popularity.
Many reforms and initiatives introduced during his administration, which faced resistance at the time, are today yielding positive results and contributing to the state’s advancement,” Ododo stated.
The Governor further described the former Governor as a leader with a remarkable ability to identify and develop talent, stressing that many individuals currently serving in leadership positions owe their rise to Bello’s faith in their abilities and his commitment to empowering others.
Ododo acknowledged his personal relationship with the former Governor, saying he remains one of the beneficiaries of Bello’s mentorship and leadership philosophy.
He emphasized that beyond physical projects and institutional reforms, Bello’s greatest legacy may be the human capital development initiatives that created opportunities for ordinary citizens to serve and excel in positions of responsibility.
Governor Ododo said the celebration of Yahaya Bello’s birthday provides an opportunity to reflect on a legacy defined by courage, resilience, vision and transformational leadership.
He prayed for Allah’s continued blessings upon the former Governor, asking for good health, wisdom, strength and many more years of fruitful service to humanity.
“Today, we celebrate an outstanding leader, mentor and pathfinder whose contributions to the development of Kogi State remain significant and enduring.
His life has positively impacted countless people, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations,” the Governor said.
