The Kogi State Government has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance against kidnapping and violent crimes following the successful rescue of all victims abducted from the Daarul-Kitab Islamic Orphanage in Lokoja.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, the government disclosed that the rescue operation was carried out through coordinated efforts involving troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
According to the statement, the remaining victims were rescued in the early hours of May 6, 2026, from the Agbaja Forest axis in Lokoja Local Government Area. The operation led to the safe recovery of five boys, two girls, and two adult females.
The rescued victims have since been moved to a military medical facility, where they are currently receiving medical attention and care.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo commended the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for their courage, professionalism, and commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He also praised the resilience shown by the victims and their families during the difficult period, assuring residents that the security of lives and property remains a top priority of his administration.
The governor stated that the successful operation demonstrates the determination of his government to ensure criminal elements have no safe haven in Kogi State, adding that efforts would continue to strengthen security architecture, intelligence gathering, and support for security agencies.
Governor Ododo further expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support toward sustaining security and stability in the state, while also acknowledging the collaboration of security agencies across the country.
The Kogi State Government urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, assuring the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction and bring them to justice.
