The Kogi State Government has renewed efforts to deepen collaboration with the Federal Government on critical infrastructure development, particularly major road projects across the state.
This followed a courtesy visit by the State Commissioner for Works, Hon. Barr. Abdulsalami Momodu Ozigi Deedat, to the Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi, in Abuja on Tuesday.
During the visit, the commissioner commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing infrastructure drive under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the administration’s road development initiatives as impactful and visible across the country.
Hon. Deedat said the purpose of the visit was to strengthen the working relationship between the Kogi State Ministry of Works and the Federal Ministry of Works in order to accelerate road construction and rehabilitation projects.
He noted that closer cooperation between both governments would improve transportation, ease traffic congestion, and enhance economic activities within Kogi State and neighbouring regions.
The Commissioner also called for urgent intervention on several key federal roads in the state, especially the Lokoja–Okene Road and Ajaokuta Road, which he described as vital economic routes.
He also listed the Itobe Road and Mopa–Isanlu Road among projects needing immediate federal attention.
According to him, rehabilitation of the roads would bring relief to commuters, boost trade, and strengthen Kogi’s position as a major link connecting different parts of Nigeria.
He further praised Minister Umahi for his commitment to quality road projects nationwide and urged him to sustain the momentum.
Responding, the Minister of Works described Kogi State as the “heart of the nation” and said the visit came at the right time.
Umahi also lauded Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his efforts in infrastructure development and improving the welfare of the people.
The Minister assured the delegation of continued federal support and disclosed plans to visit Kogi State in the coming week to inspect ongoing and proposed projects.
Investigator news reports that members of the delegation included the Deputy Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Halims; Hon. Danladi Aguye; Hon. David Zakariyu; Hon. Salman Idris; Hon. Paul Gawan Haruna; and the Permanent Secretary, Kogi State Ministry of Works, Engr. Abdulsalam Sagir.
The visit underscores the Kogi State Government’s commitment to partnering with the Federal Government to fast-track development and improve road connectivity across the state.
