Ilepeju–In a decisive move to strengthen environmental sustainability, the Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, Dr. Seyi Jakande, on Friday, April 17, inaugurated a Special Environmental Committee to enhance cleanliness and promote sustainable practices across the council area.
The initiative, which comes ahead of the environmental sanitation exercise scheduled to commence on April 25, reflects the council’s commitment to creating a cleaner, healthier, and safer environment for residents.
The newly inaugurated 17-member committee is expected to work in close collaboration with Odi-Olowo Waste and Recycle Services (OWARS) and the Odi-Olowo Transport and Environmental Corps (OTEC) to drive effective waste management, environmental protection, and sustainable environmental practices throughout the LCDA.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Jakande stressed the need for collective responsibility in protecting the environment, noting that sustainable development can only be achieved through joint efforts.
According to him, the establishment of the committee demonstrates the council’s determination to address environmental challenges proactively and ensure lasting solutions.

“This committee represents our commitment to tackling environmental issues head-on. Through collaboration with OWARS and OTEC, we aim to maintain cleaner communities and promote environmentally responsible practices that will safeguard our future,” he said.
The committee’s responsibilities include developing innovative strategies for waste reduction and recycling, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, and promoting public awareness on proper environmental practices.
The group will also engage community leaders and stakeholders to foster partnerships that support sustainable initiatives.
Dr. Jakande further urged residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to actively support the committee’s activities, emphasizing that environmental sustainability requires the participation of everyone.
