Bandits killed a Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) commander and a Sabon Gero community resident in Kaduna State’s Millennium City, Chikun Local Government Area, yesterday.
They also kidnapped 16 locals, including a doctor and his family. Six of the victims, however, managed to flee the bandits.
According to our correspondent, the bandits stormed the community on motorcycles between 10 p.m. Monday and 1 a.m. Tuesday, causing panic in the community.
According to reports, the JTF commander and other members opened fire on the bandits without realising they were close by.
“The bandits opened fire and hit the commander on his legs, he fell to the ground, and they shot him in the head, shattering his skull,” said a CJTF member who requested anonymity. A bullet also struck the resident, who died on the way to the hospital.
“The bandits may have targeted the home of a local doctor, as they went straight to his home and abducted him and six members of his family.”
“They raided other nearby residences and kidnapped nine people.”
“Some of us were still doing some chores when we started hearing gunshots,” said another witness, who identified herself as Mama Margret. The bandits broke into people’s homes and kidnapped them; they also kidnapped other residents as they tried to flee.”
Another resident, Miracle Elisha, stated that the situation would have been much worse if neighbouring communities had not intervened quickly.
DSP Mohammed Jalige, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), had not returned calls as of the time of filing this report.
According to reports, the attack occurred just days after seven residents of the Keke A and Keke B communities in the same area, including a soldier’s wife, were kidnapped.
