Owerri –It was a historic and memorable as Imo State Universal Basic Education Board (IMSUBEB) inaugurated School – Based Management Committee ( SBMC), as well recognising, honoured prominent personalities who have distinguished themselves towards the development of education in the state.
The ceremony which took place at the IMSUBEB Secretariat Owerri, recently, witnessed the presence of high profile people who graced the occasion.
Speaking with newsmen, Chief Ifeanyi Nwadikwa (Akaraka Na Orsu) and Chairman Akaraka Human Advancement Foundation, an awardee, who bagged an outstanding merit award for his contributions toward the basic education in Orsu Local Government Area, expressed delight and thanked IMSUBEB for the recognition and award of honour bestowed on him.
He described the award as a special one, adding that has encourage him to do more, specially in the area of assisting the young ones to secure good basic education through his educational empowerment program, scholarship, says his foundation has provided reading desk for secondary schools who were in severe need of them, saying the best security infrastructure any society can build is education.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area, Hon. Obioha Ndukwe, described the award of recognition for his contributions for the renovation of community school Uwawachi and sponsorship of all the primary school inter-house sports in Ihitte Uboma as well deserved honour.
He appreciated Governor Hope Uzodimma for his support towards the development of education in the state, adding that IMSUBEB has done greatly in times of basic education promised to work in synergy with the newly inaugurated School – Based Management Committee for better result.
However, the Chairman Niger Delta Development Commission, Hon. Dr. Kyrian Uchegbu, said he is happy that the merit award is coming from an organization that talks about education of the children and maintenance of public education.
He revealed that his heart is filled with joy and satisfaction, thanked IMSUBEB for finding him worthy to be recognized and honoured with this prestigious merit award, adding that will encourage him to do more.
Uchegbu, maintained that the development of education in the state requires collaboration with every stakeholder to secure the future of Imo children pointed out it will be of the benefit to the entire communities and state at large, commending governor Hope Uzodimma for his infrastructural development witnessed on educational sector.
An awardee, Rt. Hon. Justice Nze, Chairman Ikeduru Local Government Area, expressed his heartfelt gratitude over the IMSUBEB merit award of recognition bestowed on him, was attracted because of the outstanding roles he played towards the development of schools in Ikedure LGA.
He hinted that, he never knew eyes were watching when they are doing what they are doing, even as he thanked the Chairman of SBMC in Ikedure Dr. Gab Onyekuru whom he described as an astute academic and educationist who has distinguished himself in private sector in the area of academics, and performed in the development of schools.
Meanwhile, the President of Water Producers Southeast, and Chairman of the Entrepreneurs Imo State, Engr. Bismark Lumanze, described the award of honour bestowed on him as so impacting, adding he believes is an award merited.
He commended governor Hope Uzodimma, and Dr. Doris Uzoka, Minister for Budget ( State) describing them as their partners in progress in the humanitarian services.
The Imo State Commissioner for Education, Hon. B. T. Ikegwoha, ably represented by the Special adviser to the Imo State Government, Hon. Bright Nwachukwu, described the inauguration and recognition of award to individuals as commendable action.
He noted that is a way to encourage more people to join into school development system, revealing that government can not do it alone as he called for collaboration in partnership between the community and private individuals.
Also speaking, the National Chairman School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, expressed happiness for witnessing the inauguration of his members in Imo state.
He urged community leaders in the state to start preparing children because they are the future of tomorrow, and to enable their tomorrow to be bright required collective effort to achieve this success, saying government can not do it alone.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman Imo State Universal Basic Education Board ( IMSUBEB) Hon . Chidiebere Egboh thanked the National Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) Alhaji Abdullahi Umar and other key officers for making the inauguration of the SBMC a reality.
He charged the newly inaugurated committee members to work in collaboration with school administrators, teachers, parents, and government agencies to create a conducive learning environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
The chairman stressed out that the awardees were painstakingly selected for their outstanding performance, dedication, and commitment towards enhancing public basic education in their various communities/LGA.
He commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for his effort to ensure that every Imo child embrace education, and other infrastructural development strides witnessed in the state
