The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers following a series of complaints from residents of Ughelli and surrounding communities over attacks on unsuspecting victims.
According to the Police, the suspects were allegedly involved in assaulting victims with cutlasses and dispossessing them of their motorcycles during coordinated operations within the area.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), in collaboration with members of the Ughelli Kingdom Vigilantes, carried out coordinated raids between 6:30 a.m. and 9:10 a.m. on April 20, 2026, across different locations in Ughelli metropolis.
The operation led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Surajo Atar, 25, from Bigal Village in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State; Abba Musa, 24, from Madara Village in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State; and Babangida Yusuf, 25, from Hamdullahi Village in Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State.
Police recovered a cutlass and a black mask believed to have been used in carrying out the alleged criminal activities at the point of arrest.
Further interrogation of the suspects led operatives to the Trailer Park area along Sapele Road, Warri, where Abdurasheed Shafiu, 31, was arrested.
He was identified as a suspected receiver of stolen motorcycles and reportedly confessed to purchasing the items from the gang.
The Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover additional stolen properties.
He reiterated the Commandâs commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist security agencies in combating crime.
