The Delta State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a viral video circulating on X and other social media platforms, in which a woman alleged that some police officers assaulted her and subjected her to more than 40 strokes of cane.
According to the Command,in a release signed by Police Public Relations Officer, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State has ordered an immediate and comprehensive inquiry into the incident. Initial steps have already begun to verify the claims and identify the officers allegedly involved.
Police authorities said the matter has been referred to the appropriate investigative unit for discreet handling, while efforts are ongoing to ensure that any personnel found connected to the incident are identified and held accountable.
The Command has appealed to the victim and the activist who shared the report to visit the Command headquarters and provide relevant information that could assist investigators in identifying those involved.
Condemning all forms of assault, brutality, and abuse of citizens, the Police Command stated that such behaviour is contrary to the ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed that violations of citizens’ rights and dignity will not be tolerated, adding that any officer found culpable would face disciplinary action in line with the Police Act and other extant regulations.
He stressed that professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights remain non-negotiable under his leadership.
The Command also assured the victim of confidentiality, protection, and institutional support throughout the investigative process.

Investigator news reports that members of the public with useful information, eyewitness accounts, or additional video evidence were also encouraged to come forward to support the ongoing investigation.
