…….As Commissioners Inspect Students’ Hostels, Doctors’ Quarters

The Kogi State Government has further demonstrated its commitment to strengthening medical education and healthcare delivery with the construction of world-class hostels for medical students and quarters for doctors at the Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Teaching Hospital, Okene.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Taiye Abanika, on Monday inspected the newly completed facilities to assess their readiness for use.
The inspection covered the medical studentsâ hostel complex and the doctorsâ quarters, both designed to support clinical training, research and prompt healthcare service delivery at the teaching hospital.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Fanwo described the project as a clear demonstration of âvision extensionâ and continuity in governance, noting that the facility, which started as a Reference Hospital under former Governor Yahaya Bello, has now been fully transformed into a Teaching Hospital by the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
âThis is what continuity and vision extension mean. One administration established the Reference Hospital, another administration has built on it, expanding it into a Teaching Hospital with the requisite facilities for training medical students,â Fanwo said.

He expressed satisfaction with the quality and standard of the facilities, highlighting the spacious rooms, dedicated reading areas, wardrobes, bathrooms and toilets, as well as provisions for solar power and internet connectivity.
According to him, while students at the pre-clinical stage will continue to be accommodated at the main CUSTECH campus in Osara, those in their clinical years will now have a conducive hostel close to the hospital to aid serious academic work and research.
Fanwo also emphasized the importance of the doctorsâ quarters, stating that providing accommodation for doctors within the hospital premises would enhance emergency response and improve healthcare delivery.
He said the initiative is part of Governor Ododoâs deliberate strategy to attract and retain qualified medical professionals in Kogi State by creating a comfortable living and working environment.
He added that similar investments are ongoing in other institutions, including the Prince Abubakar Audu University Teaching Hospital, Anyigba, stressing that the ultimate goal is to produce world-class doctors from Kogi State who can compete anywhere in the world.
On his part, the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Taiye Abanika, described the facilities as more than just conventional accommodation.
He noted that the hostel was thoughtfully designed to meet the peculiar needs of medical students, with attention to reading spaces, comfort and hygiene.
Abanika commended Governor Ododo for his all-round sectoral development, particularly in health and education, noting that the investment will have long-term benefits for the people of Kogi State.
Both Commissioners urged medical students to take their studies seriously to justify the huge resources being invested in their training, while calling on future administrations to sustain and build on the current momentum.
