The Anambra State Government has dismissed as false and misleading reports claiming that a structure within the new Government House collapsed following a heavy rainstorm that occurred on Thursday evening, April 9, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, the government clarified that no building within the Government House complex was affected by the storm.
According to the statement, only a few partitions of the barricade barriers located outside the Government House, approximately 20 metres away from the perimeter fence, were impacted by the heavy wind and thunderstorms experienced across parts of the state.
The government explained that the rainstorm caused disruptions and damage to several properties in different locations, including private residences, stressing that the incident was purely weather-related and not a result of structural failure.
Meanwhile, the Anambra Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has mobilised to the affected site, with reconstruction work already underway.
Additional engineering measures are also being introduced, including the creation of adequate spacing to allow for the free flow of heavy winds and prevent future occurrences.
The state government further condemned the spread of what it described as fake and politically-motivated reports, accusing certain individuals of attempting to mislead residents and politicise a natural weather event.
Investigator news reports that residents were therefore urged to disregard the misinformation and continue supporting the administration’s development agenda.
