Ejigbo, Lagos, June 21, 2026 – In a decisive move to promote environmental cleanliness and restore order within Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the Executive Chairman, Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo (TAT), has ordered the immediate closure of illegal market activities at the gate entrance to Nepa Junction and directed the relocation of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) operations to a designated open space.
The directive was issued during an inspection tour led by the Chairman alongside the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Mrs. Yemisi Otuyemi; Chief of Staff, Hon. Ramon Olaseni Taiwo; Supervisor for Special Duties, Hon. Kehinde Onadeko; Supervisor for Agriculture and Rural Development, Hon. Matthew Gbadegesin; and Supervisor for Tourism and Culture, Hon. Ridman Akinwunmi.
During the exercise, the council team met with Engineer Ojuowuro of the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation to discuss measures aimed at improving traffic management and strengthening environmental sanitation across the council area.
Speaking during the inspection, TAT reiterated his administration’s commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and orderly environment, warning that indiscriminate refuse dumping, illegal trading and unauthorized occupation of public spaces would no longer be tolerated.
He stressed that offenders would be sanctioned in accordance with extant environmental laws, noting that the council would sustain its enforcement efforts to rid the area of activities that obstruct free movement and constitute health hazards.
According to the Chairman, the relocation of NURTW operations and the closure of the illegal market are part of broader efforts to decongest major roads, improve traffic flow and enhance the overall aesthetics of Ejigbo LCDA.
He appealed to traders, transport operators and residents to support the council’s initiatives by adhering to environmental regulations and making cleanliness a collective responsibility.
Aare TAT further assured residents that his administration would continue to collaborate with relevant state agencies to ensure that Ejigbo remains a model of cleanliness, orderliness and sustainable development.
Residents and stakeholders who witnessed the exercise commended the Chairman for taking bold steps to address persistent environmental and traffic challenges, expressing confidence that the intervention would bring lasting relief and further improve the quality of life in the council area.
