…As Joint Mass Sensitisation Campaign Begins Next Week To Save Lives

Ikeja, Lagos –The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government,Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has announced a joint mass sensitisation campaign with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW)to stop the dangerous practice of loading and dropping passengers on the Ikeja-Along/Computer Village connecting bridge. 
The campaign will also educate pedestrians on the risks of trekking on the vehicular bridge and the importance of using the designated pedestrian bridge.
AKOD disclosed this when chairmen of NURTW park garages across Ikeja, led by the Lagos State Chairman of the union, Comrade Mustafa Adekunle Seigo, paid him a courtesy visit and presented thousands of safety fliers for distribution across the local government.
The fliers carry direct warnings such as
“Stop Loading and Dropping Passenger on the bridge.Your life is precious. Use the pedestrian bridge.”
Describing the campaign as “apt, timely and imperative,” the Chairman said his administration remains committed to protecting lives, easing traffic congestion and ensuring proper use of public infrastructure.
“Every day we see avoidable risks on that bridge. This sensitisation is to save lives first, and also to improve traffic flow in Ikeja and Computer Village,” AKOD stated.
He added that members of the council’s executive will join NURTW leadership next week for the sensitisation exercise at strategic locations across Ikeja.
The Chairman issued a stern warning to offenders“Those who continue to load or drop passengers on the bridge, and pedestrians who refuse to use the pedestrian bridge, will be apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law. We urge full cooperation from transport operators and residents.”
AKOD was joined during the meeting by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Abisola Omisore,Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Hon. Ayo Adenuga,and other council officials.
