Residents of Ilasamaja in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area have intensified their call for the urgent rehabilitation of several badly damaged roads, as the member representing Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, Hon. Bar Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, appealed to the Lagos State Government to swiftly intervene.

While applauding the Governor of Lagos State for the remarkable infrastructural development and transformative projects being executed across the state, Hon. Okey-Joe said the time has come for similar attention to be extended to communities within Ilasamaja, where deteriorating roads have become a daily source of hardship for residents and motorists.

According to the lawmaker, the deplorable condition of many roads in the area has continued to disrupt commercial activities, expose residents to avoidable dangers and worsen traffic congestion, despite the resilience and patience shown by members of the community.

He noted that commuters and motorists now spend several hours navigating the damaged roads, resulting in lost productivity, increased transportation costs and frequent vehicle breakdowns due to deep potholes and uneven road surfaces.

Hon. Okey-Joe further warned that the poor state of the roads has created security concerns, as abandoned and poorly accessible routes have become vulnerable spots for criminal activities while also increasing the likelihood of road accidents.

The roads listed for urgent rehabilitation include Godwin Omonua Road, Ogunbowole Street, Daudi Oseni Street, Adeyiga Street, Bankole Street, Cecilia Adetuga Street, Osanyitola Street and Salako Street, off Fiditi Street.

In a show of solidarity, youths, community leaders and residents of Ilasamaja joined the appeal, describing the roads as death traps that have negatively affected businesses, social life and the overall wellbeing of the people.

They urged the Lagos State Government to urgently come to their rescue, stressing that fixing the roads would restore hope, improve mobility, stimulate economic activities and attract more development to the community.

“Our people deserve better. Every day, residents struggle through these roads to get to work, schools and businesses. We are appealing to the Governor to intervene and help restore these roads so Ilasamaja can regain its pride,” the community representatives said.

Hon. Okey-Joe expressed confidence in the Governor’s commitment to inclusive development, saying that prompt intervention would not only improve transportation but also enhance security, create a more conducive environment for businesses and significantly improve the quality of life for residents.

He added that photographs of the affected roads have been submitted to further highlight the severity of the situation and the urgent need for government action.

The lawmaker expressed optimism that with the Governor’s proven commitment to infrastructure renewal, the affected roads would soon receive the attention they deserve, bringing lasting relief to thousands of residents and road users in Ilasamaja.
