The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, has suspended Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho over alleged anti-party activities, a move party stakeholders described as necessary to safeguard the unity and electoral strength of the party in Kogi East.
The suspension was announced following a resolution reached during a meeting of the Ward Executive Committee held on May 26, 2026. Party leaders said the decision came after reviewing what they termed “protracted anti-party activities” allegedly carried out by the senator representing Kogi East Senatorial District.
According to party officials, Senator Echocho was accused of fraternising with opposition figures and allegedly engaging in discussions aimed at defecting from the APC after reportedly becoming dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s internal political consultations.
The ward executives also alleged that the senator’s actions were connected to efforts to pursue what they described as a personal third-term agenda.
The party further accused the lawmaker of consistently working against the interests of the APC despite benefiting from the party’s platform for eight years.
Leaders of the ward alleged that Senator Echocho failed to deliver his polling unit during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections and did not provide the expected leadership during key political contests in the state.
Reacting to the development, APC chieftain Mallam Nasiru Musa described the suspension as a timely step to protect the integrity of the party in Kogi East.
He stated that the senator’s actions had become detrimental to the growth and stability of the APC, accusing him of neglecting the people while pursuing personal interests during his years in office.
Musa further claimed that the party could no longer tolerate actions capable of undermining its unity, especially after what he described as the rejection of the senator’s third-term ambition by party members and the people.
Meanwhile, stakeholders across Kogi East have continued to express dissatisfaction over what they described as the senator’s poor representation and lack of visible impact in the district.
Party faithful also commended the Ward Executive Committee for taking what they called a bold and disciplined decision aimed at strengthening the APC and discouraging acts capable of threatening the party’s progress.
The suspension letter, signed by members of the Ward Executive Committee, stated that the action would serve as a warning to party members whose conduct could endanger the unity, growth and electoral success of the APC in Kogi State.
