Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, on Tuesday joined thousands of children, parents, and stakeholders at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka to commemorate the 2026 National Children’s Day celebration.
The event, themed “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” highlighted the need for stronger protection, quality education, and holistic development for children across the country.
Representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Soludo delivered the presidential address, stressing that Nigeria’s future depends on the choices made for children today.
According to him, inclusion must remain the foundation of national development, adding that every Nigerian child deserves equal opportunities regardless of background, gender, or physical ability.
Speaking further, the governor conveyed the Federal Government’s commitment to listening more closely to children’s voices and ensuring that policies and governance structures reflect their needs and aspirations.
He also emphasized that while government policies are important, the role of families and society in shaping children’s values and well-being cannot be overlooked.
Governor Soludo reiterated his administration’s resolve to ensure that no child in Anambra State is left behind through improved access to quality education and social support programmes targeted at vulnerable children and those living with disabilities.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Chinyere Onyekesi, welcomed guests and commended the wife of the governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, for her contributions toward child welfare through the Nonye Soludo Healthy Living Initiative.
She also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to tackling child abuse, trafficking, child labour, and street hawking involving minors through stronger inter-agency collaboration and advocacy.
Addressing the children, Mrs. Onyekesi encouraged them to remain focused on their dreams and avoid negative influences, describing them as the future leaders and innovators of society.
The celebration featured colourful march-pasts by schools across the state as well as presentations by various children’s groups.
Among dignitaries present at the event were the wife of the governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim and members of the State Executive Council.
