LASUED Management Hosts, Celebrates Students-Athletes, Promises Support

Lagos–The Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) management hosted and celebrated its students-athletes for their outstanding performance and representation of the school in various sports competition.

The LASUED management, with penchant for sports, promised the school contingent support to sustain the tempo of outstanding outcomes in the subsequently.

In a vibrant display of institutional pride and athletic excellence, the LASUED Directorate of Sports, on Thursday, paid a courtesy visit to the its Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof. Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, presented medals and trophies won by its athletes across several international and local competitions.

 

The visit held at the institution’s Multimedia Complex, served as a victory lap for the university’s contingent that participated in the West African University Games (WAUG), the FISU World University Games, the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU), and the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA).

ā€ŽSpeaking at the event, with many sports enthusiasts in attendance, Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye, said that, sports has the magic wand to unite society, empower and instil confidence in people.

The V C reflectioned on her passion for sports, recalled her student days as an athlete and basketball player as rewarding.

According to her sports build not only physical strength but also confidence, self-esteem, and social skills. Participation pushes individuals out of their comfort zones and encourages interaction.

“Management will always show commitment to encourage students in sports for the university exists because of you.

“I commend you all for choosing discipline and positive engagement over negative influences,” she said.

The university boss described sports as a meaningful ā€œside hustleā€ that teaches lasting values such as resilience and teamwork, urged the athletes to develop their skills to get to stardom.

Also in his remark at the event, LASUED Registrar Mr. Akinfemiwa Opeoluwa, congratulated the athletes for making the school proud.

The Registrar, implored the athletes to continue to be good ambassadors of the school and the nation.

He reminded the athletes that “the reward for hard work is more work,” charged the directorate to aim for a top-three finish in the forthcoming NUGA games.

Chairman, LASUED Sports Advisory Council, Dr. Olufemi Joseph, known as Fish, lauded the V C and her team for the support to the athletes.

He said that the sports team with support from the management, will continue to excel.

In a symbolic gesture of appreciation at the event, the Federation of Africa University Sports (FASU) and NUGA awarded special medals to the V C in recognition of her commitment to sports development.

The university was represented at the World University Games (FISU) in Germany by Jesse Jonah and Florence that represented in Taekwondo.
