The Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda (AKOD), has flagged off critical drainage and road intervention works on Oluwaleyimu Street, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and improve environmental conditions within the council area.
The intervention project includes the construction of a box culvert, desilting of drainage channels, repair of damaged drainage sections, and patching of failed portions of the road.
The initiative is aimed at addressing persistent flooding challenges, improving vehicular movement, and enhancing sanitation in the area.
Speaking during the commencement of the project, Chairman AKOD stated that the intervention aligns with his administration’s I.K.E.J.A Agenda, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, and job creation through local participation.
“Oluwaleyimu Street plays a vital role in the daily movement of residents and businesses within Ikeja. This intervention goes beyond road repairs; it is about improving livelihoods, ensuring safety, and delivering a cleaner and more functional environment for our people,” he said.
The Chairman further explained that the desilting exercise would facilitate the free flow of water across drainage channels, thereby reducing flooding risks, while the construction of the box culvert would provide a long-term solution to water passage challenges.
Residents of Oluwaleyimu Street commended the Chairman for the timely intervention, expressing optimism that the project would ease transportation difficulties and improve sanitation within the community.
The Oluwaleyimu Street intervention is part of several ongoing infrastructure and environmental initiatives being implemented by the AKOD administration to deliver democratic dividends and position Ikeja as a model local government in Lagos State.
