Vice President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone C (Southeast), Comrade Ezenwa Adiuku, has urged Christians across Nigeria, particularly in the Southeast, to embrace the message of hope, sacrifice, and renewal as they celebrate Easter.
In his Easter message, Adiuku described the season as a sacred period for reflection on the resurrection of Jesus Christ and its significance in inspiring hope even in times of hardship.
He noted that Nigeria is currently facing serious economic challenges, with rising cost of living affecting many households. According to him, numerous families are struggling to afford basic necessities such as food, shelter, and education for their children.
Adiuku stressed that the Easter season should encourage citizens to reflect on their responsibilities toward one another, especially the vulnerable and less privileged members of society.
“This Easter period should serve as a time for deep reflection on our society and on our actions toward our families, communities, and those in need. We must renew our commitment to compassion, justice, and shared responsibility,” he said.
The NUJ Zone C Vice President also called on governors in the Southeast to use the period to reassess their leadership roles and address pressing issues affecting the region.
He expressed concern over what he described as the prolonged inactivity of the Southeast governors’ forum, noting that stronger collaboration is needed to improve governance, infrastructure, and security.
Adiuku emphasized that the people of the Southeast deserve safe communities, improved road networks, and an environment where residents can live without fear.
The Zonal VP went further to appeal to religious leaders and traditional rulers to continue speaking against injustice and societal challenges, noting that their influence remains crucial in promoting moral values and social responsibility.
Despite the prevailing difficulties, he expressed optimism that the nation can overcome its challenges, stressing that Easter symbolizes hope and the possibility of renewal.
He urged Christians to remain steadfast in faith and embody the teachings of Christ in their daily lives.
Adiuku concluded by wishing Christians across the Southeast and Nigeria a peaceful, joyful, and spiritually fulfilling Easter celebration, while praying for unity, peace, and progress across the country.
