The Commissioner for Information and Communications in Kogi State, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, has called on Nigerians, particularly indigenes of Takete Ide Amuro in Mopamuro Local Government Area, to join the community as it celebrates 100 years of its existence.
Fanwo, who is the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee for the centenary, described the celebration as a landmark that reflects the community’s rich history, cultural heritage and vision for development.
He said the centenary celebration will be an opportunity to honour past leaders, showcase the cultural identity of Takete Ide, and mobilize support for future development projects.
According to him, the event will feature youth sensitisation, colourful cultural displays, health education programmes and fundraising to drive community development.
One of the major highlights, Fanwo noted, will be the unveiling of a book that documents the history of Takete Ide Amuro. He said the book will help preserve the community’s heritage and ensure its traditions, values and historical experiences are passed to coming generations.
The celebration will also include an Award Night to recognize illustrious sons and daughters who have contributed to the growth of Takete Ide, with posthumous awards for past heroes whose sacrifices laid the foundation for the community.
Another significant part of the programme will be a Praise Night, where the people will thank God for His protection, guidance and preservation over the last 100 years.
Fanwo explained that the centenary will bring together indigenes at home and abroad, friends of the community, tourists and well-wishers who will have the opportunity to experience the culture and hospitality of Takete Ide.
He announced that the Managing Director of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited, Professor Abdulsalam Nasir Naeem, will serve as Chairman of the occasion, adding that the event is expected to attract distinguished personalities from within and outside Kogi State.
He said the combination of historical documentation, cultural celebration, youth engagement and community recognition shows the commitment of the planning committee to making the centenary meaningful and memorable.
Fanwo urged all sons and daughters of Takete Ide to use the occasion to strengthen communal unity, celebrate their shared identity and support initiatives that will advance the community.
The Olude of Takete Ide, His Royal Highness, Oba Philip Ebilakun, will be the royal host of the celebration.
He also called on corporate organizations, public office holders, development partners and well-meaning Nigerians to support the historic event and identify with the development aspirations of the community.
