The Ogun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abayomi Tella, has pledged the party’s support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Tella made this declaration during the inauguration of the campaign council and official campaign flag-off for the August 16 House of Representatives by-election for Remo Federal Constituency, Ogun State.
The federal constituency comprises the three local governments of Sagamu, Remo North, and Ikenne Remo. Tella stated that the South-West PDP has unanimously agreed to support Tinubu’s re-election because he is from the South-West region.
He described Tinubu as the “father of the nation,” hence the need to ensure his return to office in 2027 till 2031.
“We will support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Though he is in the opposition, let us support our own from the South West. Our support is for Tinubu, and we will stand by him,” Tella declared.
“We are ready to give him our votes. The whole of the South West will give him our votes.
“We are going to support him. We will give him our votes come 2027. All we want is for this election to be fair and just.”he said
Tella went further to urge party faithful to participate in the by-election and resist any form of intimidation or harassment.
Investigator news reports that the Remo Federal Constituency became vacant after the death of the former House of Representatives Deputy Chief Whip, Adewunmi Onanuga, last December.
“We are not going to submit to any harassment or intimidation on Saturday. The election is a win-win for the party.
This constituency is our stronghold, and this was evident in the outcome of the 2023 election. Our party defeated the sitting governor in his ward. They will record defeat as far as this election is concerned.”
The National Vice Chairman of the PDP, Kamorudeen Ajisafe,also expressed confidence in the party’s chances, stating that the South-West Zonal Secretariat has been temporarily relocated to Ogun State to ensure closer coordination and support for the party’s candidate, Bola Oluwole.
Ajisafe condemned the APC’s alleged “coercive and desperate defection tactics,” asserting that such moves cannot cover up the party’s failures.
“No amount of political intimidation or forced defections can distract Nigerians from the reality of APC’s abysmal performance.”
The 2023 governorship candidate of the PDP, Oladipupo Adebutu, emphasized the importance of winning the by-election and challenging bad governance in the state.
He noted that the party won 34 wards out of 35 in the previous election in the federal constituency, saying the APC-led government has lost goodwill due to its conduct.
Oluwole, the PDP’s candidate, urged Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun to allow a peaceful election devoid of any electoral malpractices.
