Mr. Hassan M. Taura, the Niger State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), announced yesterday that two corps members from the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 died during their service year.
The State Coordinator, who revealed this during the Passing Out Parade (PoP) of the 2021 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 of the Corps, which took place yesterday at the Bako Kontagora memorial stadium in Minna, did not give their details or what caused their deaths.
A total of 926 corps members successfully completed the one-year mandatory national service, with three of them found wanting because they absconded from their primary assignment and will have to repeat the national service.
Meanwhile, the Niger State government has charged the departing corps members to put all skills acquired during their service years to good use for their own development as well as the development of their immediate surroundings.
Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, Secretary to State Government (SSG), who gave the charge during the PoP of the 921 corps members who successfully completed their mandatory national service year in Niger state, also encouraged them to always ‘think Nigeria first’ in whatever they do after NYSC.
Ibrahim Matane urged ex-corps members to maintain a positive outlook on issues affecting Nigeria as a country they can call their own, as well as to increase their efforts to contribute their fair share to her growth and development in whatever capacity they can.
The Niger state government scribe, who expressed his admiration for the corps members’ maturity and discipline throughout their stay in the state, encouraged them to always allow the lessons of selflessness and humility learned during the period to guide them in the obvious realities of life after the mandatory national service.
“I must commend most of the corps members for displaying a high sense of maturity, devotion, hard work, and persistence throughout the duration of this national assignment; I strongly urge you to continue with the same spirit as you exit the service and enter the labour market.”
Matane also told ex-corps members who would be entering the labour market that the “government is aware of the security challenges being witnessed in parts of Niger state and the country as a whole, hence the efforts being made to address the issue.”
