The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has swiftly secured the scene of a fatal crash involving a dispatch rider and a diesel tanker along the Apapa–Oshodi Expressway, following a tragic incident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

According to reports, the accident occurred beneath the Cele Bridge corridor when a fully loaded HOWO diesel tanker with registration number RBC 38 XF violently rammed into a dispatch motorcycle.

The impact trapped the rider beneath the tanker, leading to his immediate death.
LASTMA officials stationed along the axis responded promptly, cordoning off the crash site with traffic cones and cautionary tape to prevent secondary accidents and ensure the safety of other road users navigating the busy corridor.

The offending tanker was subsequently impounded by LASTMA operatives. However, the driver reportedly fled the scene after realizing the severity of the incident.

Operatives from the Ijesha Police Division later arrived to reinforce security and commence investigations. The deceased rider, impounded tanker, and damaged motorcycle were formally handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The remains of the deceased were carefully recovered from beneath the tanker and transported by police authorities to a morgue in Yaba.

Reacting to the tragic development, the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, describing the incident as painful and unfortunate.

He urged the police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the cause of the crash and ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.
