Tinubu’s Economic Decisions Averted Total Collapse – Ohakim.
Onyebuchi Onwuchekwa, Owerri.
Former Imo State Governor, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, saying they have prevented Nigeria’s economy from total collapse despite widespread hardship.
Ohakim stated this while presenting a keynote address at the Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Orlu, held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Amandugba, in Isu LGA, Imo State.
His paper, titled “Rebuilding Nigeria’s Troubled Economy: Practical Insight into the Challenges and Solutions,” examined the root causes of the nation’s economic crisis and proposed sustainable remedies.
He emphasized that the reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, were necessary to stabilize the economy and redirect public funds towards national development. He noted that though painful, these decisions have halted the economy’s descent into an irrecoverable state.

“Though painful, the steps taken by the Tinubu administration have effectively halted the descent of our economy into an irrecoverable state,” Ohakim stated. “There’s light at the end of the tunnel, even if it’s difficult for many to see now.
The former governor went further to advocate for broader reforms beyond fiscal adjustments, including political restructuring, population management, and revitalization of the rural economy.
He stressed the importance of addressing insecurity to enable agricultural growth and food security warning that Nigeria’s rapid population growth, if left unchecked, could outpace its capacity to produce essential resources.
Ohakim urged the Church to inspire the faithful to contribute meaningfully to economic recovery, complementing prayers with hard work and strategic action.
“While prayers are vital, we must complement them with hard work and strategic action. The Church must inspire the faithful to contribute meaningfully to economic recovery,” he said.
He therefore called for a balanced and thoughtful evaluation of the Tinubu administration’s efforts, noting that all Nigerians including the Church have a role to play in overcoming the country’s economic and existential challenges.
The Bishop of Orlu Diocese also admonished Christians to prioritize righteousness and resist materialism. He also called on parents to instill godly values in their children.
Investigator news reports that the Synod drew attendees from across Imo State, including clergy, scholars, members of the laity, and other distinguished guests.
